The Steelcase Gesture Gesture Chair is designed for an office environment. The chair is thinner that most office chairs, and is intended to help users mimic the feeling of being closer to the desk, rather than being far away. The chair is equipped with patented synchro-tilt which allows the back and seat of the chair to move in 2.8:1 ratio.

The designers believe the chair would improve concentration by providing an environment that allows the user to be "stuck in thought" as they fold their arms down. The chair is also motion activated, which allows the chair to move as you shift in your chair. The chair is adjustable in height, back angle, and armrest for comfort. The chair is also available in a variety of colors.

The Gesture chair was featured on ABCs 20/20 as an example of computer chairs that are designed for comfort, but have been around for years. When the chair was launched in 2007, it was seen as an evolution of the chair design. It won the Red Dot award for product design in 2008.

In 2010 a group of students and designers from the California College of the Arts began designing a modern chair for an office environment, and a year later they went to school at Stanford University. They were inspired by the gesture chair to come up with another chair design. What they designed was a chair with built-in tablet holders. The students then gave a presentation to the president of Steelcase which was well received, and he decided to place their design on the Steelcase website. The chair went on sale in 2011.
